TAM International marked its 45th anniversary and the opening of its recently-built manufacturing facility on October 18 with a tour of the facilities in Houston, Texas.

The new site was open to employees in September. TAM specializes in inflatable packers; swellable packers; and associated downhole products and services.

Highlights of the invitation-only tour were seeing machinists in the process of manufacturing TAM products.

The 26-acre site is housed contains 126,000sq ft of manufacturing space and 17,000sq ft of office space. It is a 24-hour manufacturing site operated in three shifts. It includes an auto-clave to cure rubber, colanders to cut rubber into strips, a packer-testing unit, and a unit to pre-torque packers to spec, a service previously contracted out that is now done in-house. The facility also boasts a fully-automated parts machine, improving efficiency and safety.

The Houston-based company broke ground on the facility September 24, 2012. It was designed to support production growth in existing TAM products and to improve capacity for manufacturing large packers in excess of 40ft length and 26in diameter. It is located in northwest Houston at the intersection of US Highway 290 and Pinemont Drive.

TAM announced its intent to build the space in February 2012, contracting Kingham, Dalton, Wilson, Ltd. (KDW) to design and build the facility. The company anticipates receiving a Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) Silver Certification.
